 Hello, i have got recently my new Volvo V50, from day one the seatbelt warning tone is killing my nerves.
I was asking my Volvo dealer if there is a way to disable the tone, but he explained to me that this isnt possible as the belt is an important safety feature.

but latest today i cant live with this safety feature anymore.

i am living in Germany and today we had an outstanding nice weather with over 30°C, so i decided to go to a lake, the car was resting in the sun for approx 4 hrs,

as i was leaving i burned my shoulders because the seatbelt was very hot, so i am really hoping there is a way to disable the tone, otherwise i can only wear boring cloths in the future and no muscle shirts anymore

i heard that for some markets the seatbelt warning tone is disabled, so there must be a way to do it on my V50 as well.

eight years ago i was servicing SAAB cars here in Germany, where i was able to disable and enable every warning tone.

hope someone knows how to deal with this problem,

thanks in Advance ! :liebe011:

You dummkopf, mat9000!! Volvo has based its reputation on passive safety and the primary protection of the car's occupants is the restraint offered by the seatbelts. The warning gong has been fitted to discourage people from driving without wearing their seatbelt (and does this well I must add).

I worked in ER in the early 1970s before all cars were fitted with seatbelts and saw many people whose car had hit a solid object at low speed (less than 20km/h). The driver often smashed his nose or jaw on the steering wheel and the unfortunate front passenger either hit their head on the hard metal dashboard or went through the windshield leaving horrible disfigurement. Airbags and soft dashboards and steering wheels have now helped but still do not offer the primary protection of a properly adjusted seatbelt.

Also here in Australia we had many 40 degree days last summer and I had no problem with a hot seatbelt. I suggest raising the window (which is designed to absorb much of the heat rays) if the sun is shining directly on parts of the car's interior.

I suggest you get into the habit (as most people do) of using your seatbelt or one day you may have more than muscles popping out of your nice shirt.

Now I have hopefully converted you, enjoy your V50!!

I had same intention but without success. Anyone with knowledge would certainly be appreciated. I know airbags will not be activated without buckling seatbelt. Anyone disabling the seatbelt warning advice is at his or her own risk.

On my V50 the warning sound is very quiet until I reach a certain speed and it dims the radio and becomes quite loud. I don't think this is half annoying as my other car a Mazda6 which instantly as you start moving backwards or forwards emits a much more irrating loud tone straightaway.

On the Mazda the tone apparently does disable itself not sure about the Volvo probably not..

You could cut the seatbelt and leave it plugged in all the time :-) Probably not a great idea :-|
