Hi Everyone,

I have a 1987 240 wagon and the driver's side carpet gets wet when it rains. The rocker panel drains appear to be clear and there is no sunroof, so I'm thinking the culprit is the windshield seal. It appears that the water is coming in behind the dash and channeling around to the fuse area, and also in the corner in the back left by the driver's feet.

Should I attempt to repair this using windshield sealant, or should I have a professional handle this? If I can do it, any recommendations about what product to use or technique?

(I searched the forums but didn't see this topic addressed before, so any help would be appreciated.)

Thanks!

Jon

I don't think sealant around the windshield will make it.

I had a professional glassman come out to the house and change my windshield to the 1990-92 style. I got the name from local Volvo dealer. Watched him work and picked his brain a little. Putting sealant around the windshield is a temporary fix. To do the job right you need to remove the windshield. Then apply the sealant to the windshield while it's off the car. He gave it a lifetime guarantee against leaks, as long as the windshield remains intact.

Thanks for the advice! My gut was telling me that I need to have the whole windshield resealed, which is what I'll do.

Just an update: I had the windshield resealed (the guy only charged me $35?!) and it no longer leaks.

The mechanic did point out that there were some screws missing in the roof rack, which was also channeling water inside the car, and I plugged those as best I could. The car seems watertight now.

Thanks again for the help.
