hey guys
Well after a couple of fillups, the rumors were true, the S40 suuuucks on gas? How can a little car like that jug down so much fuel? It reminds me of my buddy Dan at the bar, he weighs like 160 5'5 and can drink a 2 4 like nothing.
What gives? What can I do to stretch out my mpg's? I read all types of chips and stuff on ebay any suggestions. A little more power would be nice too. A cold air? ECU upgrade?

I just bought a 2005 S40 5-speed stick. I'm on my third full tank of gas.

Tank 1: almost all city driving, average 24.1 mpg
Tank 2: almost all highway miles, average 29.4 mpg

I was hoping to eek out a few more mpgs with that second tank, since I was driving pretty conservatively (mom was in the car most of the way!). Some of those highway miles were in pretty mountainous landscape, though.

For 50$ your car can run on water if you believe the hype :)

The s40 is a dragon with gas if you use the turbo, just think that.... if you drive more conservatively... you will save gas just like a regular 4 cil engine....

I've been keeping careful track of my miles, and on mid-grade gas (89 octane) and highway driving, I've gotten 31.5 miles/gallon on several tanks now. I'm pretty pleased with that.
