I'm getting a code 2-4-1 and think I need to clean the EGR valve. Ok easy, right? Not!

How do you get the EGR valve off to clean it? I saw the EGR for the 850 model on the Volvospeed Bay13 site, but that EGR is located right under the throttle body. On the 940 it's all the way behind the engine next to the firewall. I can't even tell how it's mounted.

I already cleaned the throttle body and the EGR inlet to the throttle body and the code still comes up. The inlet was totally clogged with gunk.

Does anyone have a good way to get at it?

If I can't get to the EGR valve, I might just work a wire down inside the tube from the throttle body to the EGR valve spraying with carb cleaner. Is this bad? Will I mess up the EGR valve this way?

Thanks in advance for the responses...

Cheers,

Sean

Sweet - thanks. I'll ty it, but it looks hard to get back there... I'm picturing stripping at least one bolt....

By the way - halfway down the EGR Intake side pipe (between the EGR valve and the intake manifold) theres a sensor of some sort in addition to the one on the valve itself. . Do you have any idea what this is? It looks like someone cut the wires to mine at some point. Hmmm. I wonder where the wires come from as I couldn't find any loose ends around.

The other sensor might be the coolant temperature sensor but not 100% sure on that as having the wires cut would affect the fuel and ignition system. I am sure someone with a bit more knowledge on here will put you right though

there are 2 types of egr on that so be careful.

luckily the ones on mine are the same and its just a straight forward pull a pipe off and there you go, no bolts to undo etc... and it was like a ilttle collander thing with lots of little holes which were blocked that shouldnt have been so it was grease remover and a pin time.

oh btw weezy, i was in burton on trent tother day ... opposite the bowling? place that burnt down ... in the church doing a gig, had my pimp 740 out the front of it if you were driving past at any time lol
