I'm a little disturbed at the lack of tire threads that I got when I did my search. You guys (& ladies too) don't talk about tires to the point of frustration, like all the other car forums? Lets fix that....

I'm buying tires this weekend, and they're going on a set of 17x8 Koenig's. I don't know the offset. I looked on all 4, and found "ET" stamped in it, but next to it is another wierd stamping that I can't decipher into an offset number. If I had to guess, I'd say 40.

Ultimately the car will have a set of springs, probably either Eibach or H&R, so it's going to sit lower than stock. Those of you with 17's on a lowered car, what are you running for tire size? What rubs, what doesn't? I don't mind rolling a fender if I have to. My only real concern is keeping my speedometer at least close to accurate. I drive a whole lot of miles, which means a greater chance of getting a ticket if my speedometer is off.

Any input appreciated.
Thanks

firstly, the speedo is off from the factory, that much i know. had a friend who is a highway cop blast me while i was full boosting with stock tires and came back 8 miles lower than what was showing on the speedo. as with width, you will see differences with that. i think that myself, and maybe one or two other here, are running as wide as you can go with spacers and such. and i've rolled the lip on the rears. the fronts rub, so i went at it with a mallet and a block of wood. wouldn't rec. that way. but it worked. anyway, from stock you might be able to get away with one size wider in the rear. the fronts are already tight as it. and the lower you go, it just makes it a wider turning radius.

It would help to know what type of Koenig wheel, maybe we can find the offset for that wheel you have. From what I found the proper offset for an 855 with 17" wheels is about +43. If someone else knows for sure, please corect me if I'm wrong.

As for the actual size...now I can't remember where I found the tire width. A quick search on Tirerack .com will tell you. But for the speedometer, whatever tire/wheel combo you go with, try to keep the overall tire diameter the same.

I have confirmed the offset is 40. According to the tire & wheel bible the 2 best sizes for mainting the same circumference as stock are 205/45 and 215/40. My first thought is I don't want a 40 series, but I guess they'd both be about the same. I'm guessing it probably doesn't really matter too much which size I go with.
