Hi Guys,

Hope some can give me some advice.

1) I took the car on a 4 hour drive yesterday and half way thier it was overheating, so i stopped for 20 mins and checked the radiator level and it was empty, (i must admit i never checked it in the first place) so i filled it up with the correct mixture of summer coolent and water) then it was ok for the rest of the trip, checked it again before i left and again was empty, filled it up and it was fine for the 4 hour drive back. Checked it this morning and empty again ???? i cant see any leaks anywhere or wet patches on the floor ?..... could it be it was that empty that it needs this much water, althou the tank doesnt hold much ???

2) One of my front fog lights has broken, and ive seen a volvo s40 with a plastic grill over the front, does anyone know where to get these from as it seems like it would be a cheaper option.

3) I have a boot spoiler took of anther s40 all ready painted and with nuts, how easy it is to fit, as the local garage has quoted me £70 to fit it.

Thx in advance for any help or info on any of these questions.

1/ When you filling it back up are you making sure the water is filling the rad and not just filling the header tank up with enough water for that?(although it should auto bleed the system). If you cant see any sign of where the water has gone on the floor you need to check you oil level and if theres any mayo on the oil filler cap. The water has gone somewhere and if its not on the floor you may well have a blown headgasket, in which case it will either be going into the sump or out the exhaust or both. You can get pressure testers that you connect to the header tank and blow pressure in to find any leaks inthe coolant system.

2/ The front fog light is about £80 form Volvo. You might get one cheaper from GSF carparts or eurocarparts, otherwise buy the plastic blanks from a breakers yard. Make sure you get the right ones for your phase S40 though(2000 was the changeover year).

3/ Depends how confident you are in marking up your bootlid and drilling it. £70 isnt a bad price TBH.
