Not sure if the is a "feature" of my R, or a worn part.

Whenever I shift or let the clutch out with any torque on the drive train I get a soft, but definite clunk from the front.

My suspicion is a worn motor mount, but if I was so sure I wouldn't be begging for help again!

The upper engine mount is a piece of crap if it's stock. Worth replacing anyway, even if that turns out not to be the issue.

Even on the R?

I figured Volvo would put in a stiffer mount after adding a ton of HP to a car.

Grrr.

I guess my next move is to figure out what's going to be stiffest, without transmitting too much noise into the dash.

check out ipdusa.com for their mounts. i've got the ones for the 850 R and they made a big diffence. i am sure that the other members here who have used the ipd mounts will probably say the same.

Peeked under the hood, and here's what I found:

(IMG:http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll268/doogwhan/Motormount.jpg)
(IMG:http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll268/doogwhan/Motormountclose.jpg)

Looks shot to me!

The replacement that has caught my eye is from Evolve, as most of the other kits out there are for the 2005+ "square hole" mount.

And finally, how do I shrink these pics?

Or, are huge pics a good thing...

Could someone brief me of photo posting etiquette?
(or is there a FAQ I missed)

Not sure about the pics off-hand.

FWIW, I have the blue Evolve upper engine mount. The black one is not as stiff.

Okay, so you have what I plan to buy!

Any issues with harshness, or vibration?

Also, I've heard people complain about urethane bushings working or squeezing out of place. Any problems with that? Or was it just smoke...

I wouldn't call it harshness, but there is more vibration with the blue one. Personally, I'm happy with the blue and don't mind slightly more vibration.

I put mine in almost three years ago and no issues.

Well, after hunting around I went with the IPD bushing.

It's in, and the clunk is still there. So, I think the lower transmission mount is next.

I figure replacing mounts on a 50+K mile car isn't a huge waste of cash, so what the heck.

I'll just keep changing mounty bits 'till the darn thing shuts up!

This car still ROCKS

(and to think- I was gonna go get a WRX)

not sure about the s60r but on the 850 r's, there is a mount behind the upper mount that you changed. also, on the 850's there is a tranny to engine cradle mount, basically two pieces with the bushing in the middle. not sure about yours.

Yeah- I checked the smaller mount on that bracket, and it looked fine.

I suppose it's time to get the R off it's tires and start snooping about the undercarriage.

Besides, if it falls and crushes me, I achieve an epic death worthy of song!!!

One might even sing an aria! (get it? R-e-uh)

Wow- bad by even my low standards

I have the same thing in my 1999 S80 2.4, I'm thinking the transmission mount too, I had the engine top mount and wishbone bush(i know it wasn't that but it needed doing lol) replaced. Post back when/if you have the tranny mount done, I would be interested to know if it stops it, and hopefull! Good Luck! :)
