Hi

I have just bought a 2005 XC90 diesel and came across this forum.

I tend to do lots of my own vehicle maintenance and repairs, and I see reference to something called VADIS

I assume this is the manufacturers technical manual, but is there also software on the DVD to access ECU's etc. If so, what would be needed to plug into the cars OBD socket.

If not OBD software, can anybody recommend software/PC interfaces and/or handheld code readers that would give this feature.

Also does anybody know where I can get VADIS from cheaply.

I bought my copy of VADIS off Ebay for about $25, which came on a DVD disc (it was a copy not an original).

I am not certain, but if I recall correctly it did allow for a direct connection to the car, if you had the proper cable to do so. (I might be wrong on this), however you can buy a USB to OBDII cable, which usually comes with some basic code reading software itself.

As for basic code readers, Advance Auto, AutoZone, etc sell the code readers. Most will even come out and read off your codes for free if you stop by their store. Most good readers will cost $100-$200 approximately (some even higher).

i am certain that any good auto parts store in the uk would carry a code reader. here, if you order it online, the pricing will be lower, but i am not sure what the shipping charge will be for overseas. if you want to give it a shot, try rockzone.com pepboys.com strauss.com if i am not mistaken, ipdusa.com has them also. fcpgroton.com good luck and welcome to the forum.

Well picked up copy of VADIS software on Ebay, and it includes something called VCT2000.

Is this the Volvo ECU software?

What type of lead do I need for XC90. A quick Ebay/Google search for CANBUS comes up with Volkswagon/Audi leads or general OBD reader leads.

Or really expensive dedicated ones.

Anybody know exactly what I need?
