How difficult would it be to swap out an auto tranny to manual cause i hate auto i know they lose less boost but i dont think auto is much fun, so is it hard and how much does somthin like this run. Car is 86 740 turbo :banana:

Well you need the following bits of hardware;

5 speed gear box (there are 2 types) with bellhousing & clutch fork, associated wiring & fusebox, manual center console, Overdrive relay, Manual pedal box, clutch master and slave cylinder, associated plumbing, rear manual gearbox mount, rear manual cross member, tail shaft, flywheel, Clutch pressure and driven plate, spigot/pilot bearing. Oh you'ĺl need the manual ecu as well. That's the major stuff there's heaps of incidentals.

Might be easier to buy a donor car and take a fortnight off work to do the swap.

I am assuming that you'ĺl be doing the work, I don't think the average mechanic would be bothered unless you handed over wheelbarrows of folding stuff. Your car will conservatively be off the road for at least a week

Depending on your local regulatory authorities, you might have to get your car "engineered" or tagged with the modification even though its all OEM Volvo stuff.

I too would like to have a manual instead of the auto, but while the auto is ok, that's how mine will stay coz there's way too much aggro to do the conversion unless you truly want to.
