I'm sure this is common, especially in the old tank-like volvos, but how do you fix the (really) annoying squeak/rattle/whistle the air vents make? Even when the heat/AC isn't on it rattles, and the only way to fix it is to bang on the dashboard. Can I pop off the air vent and see if any loose plastic/whatever is in the housing, or is it the fan itself and difficult to repair?
Any advice will help, thanks!

Hi,

I do not think this is very common (I do not have it).
You can try and spreay WD40 into the vents grids.

hey i actually get a similar thing... when the car is cold (usually just after turning on) or just when i first turn on any sort of air flow through my vents it makes a fairly loud squeeling noise... it usually goes away within 5-10 seconds but yeah i dunno why or how to fix it... could be a similar thing to yours?

sorry, i didn't really specify when the sound occurs. if i turn the air on when the car isn't started but the power is on, it doesn't make any sound and hums perfectly, but if the car is on, and im driving, then the rattle starts. if i speed up, usually into 2nd gear, it goes away, but sooner or later comes back... it isn't a huge deal, i've learned to live with it for almost 2 years now, but i was just wondering if it's common. its an '89 740, and my other '87 760 does it too, but not as bad.

Hmm mine used to do that 89 740GL Sedan, turned out to be I needed to change the blower fan. Once I did that noise went away.
