Until recently, I've always admired Volvo's from afar. Last week I found a deal on a 99 V70 AWD that I couldn't pass up and now it sits in my garage. My question is very basic. Do I need to have my Volvo serviced at the local Volvo dealer, or can any reputable repair shop do scheduled maintenance and whatever else may come along. Will Joe Mechanic have to buy parts from the dealer anyway? My initial concern is an alignment/front end inspection since my V70 has a slight shimmy at freeway speeds.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Jeff

welcome to the forum and congrats on your 70. firstly, when you have any questions or concerns about your 70, check out the v70 forum. best place to post questions. and now to your concerns. technically, a volvo dealer is the best place. but the prices they charge are outrageous. check out cartalk.com, find the link to mechanics. enter your zip and a list of mechanics that other users found, and liked, are listed. any reputable alignment shop will be able to diagnose your shimmy. glad to have you on board.

Thanks for your help, TGM. Dropped it off at the alignment shop this morning. Keeping my fingers crossed they don't find too much.
