i have had this problem for a couple weeks it. started stalling out and restarting ok(sometimes after awhile) then it stopped starting. replaced the coil, module, speed sensor, throttle control sensor, commputer, plugs, plug wires, dist cap, fuel filter, fuel pump have all been replaced at one time i was getting a spark from plugs and no fuel then at other times no spark and fuel.
please can any one help

i had a 240 that did the same thing...after i got rid of it, the person who got it replaced the rotor and it ran fine..not sure if this is the case or even if there is a rotor in the '89 740, but may be worth a look..good luck

I had a similar problem in February of this year. I tested/replaced most of the parts you mentioned, including the distributor cap and rotor. Turns out the distributor (which I couldn't physically get to myself) was bad, thus not sending a spark to the cap, rotor, or any spark plugs. As far as your fuel issue, when you turn the ignition key all the way to the "ON" position (but not actually start the engine), do you hear your fuel pump? If you hear it but aren't getting fuel to the plugs, the fuel pressure regulator may be faulty.
