My 1991 Volvo 940 (automatic transmission) sometimes requires 2-3 attempts to start and when it starts it sometimes makes this squeaky shaking sound then stutters a little until I rev it a little to give it life. It has been stalling at traffic lights or as I slow down to stop, or when I’m attempting to drive off at an intersection. It’s running as long as the foot is on the brake but when I lift the foot and hit the accelerator it starts stalling and sort of recovers when I hit the brake again. When idling, the revs at times change in an irregular fashion and it shudders like it wants to die. It has 270Ks, I had a minor service and tune up including cleaning of the throttle body a week ago trying to solve the problem but it persists. Diagnostic scan didn't reveal much though they told me it showed airflow meter and MAF but didn't know what that meant as this model doesn't have that. They also mentioned possible wear of the spark plug leads with some arcing. At higher speeds it’s in perfect order. Is it an electrical problem?

Are you sure you don't have an airflow meter? thats sounds strange.
Check the spark plugs to see what's their condition is (simple dissasembly job).
I will also recomend you to disconnect the battary for an hour to clear the
computer.
I once disconnected the MAF sensor by mistake and the car reacted like that (even when I reconnected it back again), had to reset the computer to fix it.
