I have a 1991 240. I have an issue with headlights and taillights burning out. Sometimes the taillights will even shatter. I'm not sure what might cause this. I have to replace the lights every month. Any suggestions before I take it to a shop?

poor quality globes or perhaps water ingress ontohot globes?-- look for rust/condensate.damaged seals/lamp body/rain, irrigation overspray/dewpoint etc etc. . vibration when hot will pop most elements, but even dirt roads aren't usually bad enough. Sorry, no other ideas.

The voltage regulator in the alternator could be bad. Measure the battery voltage with the engine running. It should be about 14V.

I used to have an 850 which blew headlights and taillights about every three months. First thing the dealer asked was Where did you buy the bulbs ? I said Halfords, he said, chances are, that is your problem, if you don't use proper Volvo bulbs you may be lucky to get a week out of them ! ! ! I changed to proper Volvo bulbs and the problem stopped.

Stewart.
