I recently bought a '94 turbo, not running (fuel pump). I got it going today, and it's smoking like crazy. I'm pretty sure it was oil, but it was getting dark so it was kinda hard to discern the color of the smoke.

So I did a search, and all I found were posts about cars smoking at idle. Mine doesn't smoke at idle, it smokes when I accelerate, and even more when I come off the gas after being on boost.

It's got new plugs (old ones were black), new cap/rotor, and I replaced the hose that runs from the oil separator to the turbo inlet. The old one was mostly broken up and missing. The smaller hose was missing too, and someone had just plugged the connections on either end. And just so I know, that small hose goes from the plastic hose at the turbo inlet to the vacuum connection on the intake manifold near the t-belt cover....yes?

The oil is old and dirty, which is a good thing in this case because I don't have to worry that someone changed the oil to hide a head gasket problem. Aside from being dirty, it shows no signs of coolant. Any thoughts on what else to check?

Found the problem.

I noticed my motor was pressurizing internally, just like my non-turbo did when the flame trap was clogged. I pulled the intake and checked the oil separator and it was clear of any blockage, but I noticed I couldn't blow air through the new hose I had installed. I checked the fitting at the other end, just before the inlet to the turbo housing, and found it was plugged up with oil residue and one big piece of what used to be the old tube. Cleaned it out, and no more smoke

Hey, no worries. Sometimes it's good not to get a response right away. It makes you actually look around and try and find the answer yourself. Forums can make a person lazy. At least that's how it works with me.

yea, it was the PVC hose. It was all broken up, which is why it didn't smoke when I drove the car home. The hose was missing, so it vented engine pressure. When I put the new hose on, the clogged fitting just before the turbo inlet caused the engine to pressurize.
