I am amazed if R12 is still available. we banned it years ago, and no-one is allowed to sell it any more except for destruction. The Ozone Layer problems if has caused are enormous. Of course, old systems have to be converted if you want the aircon to work, and there's quite a cost to that, but too bad. Stop killing the planet, please. I object to any western government refusing to ban that stuff at least as we have-that's just gutless environmental vandalism. :puzzled:

look, my old man once told me that a pleasant coversation between men, that are not related, should never include religion, money or politics. so in keeping with that wisdom, i am not going to answer other than to say that yes you are correct, but check your fridge in your kitchen , your buses, etc. it is not as banned as you would think. other than that, i hope you have a nice day. :grin:

FCP Groton retrofit kits

Found these kits for changing over to R143A One is just the new seals and adapters, and the other appears to be the "whole shebang"

As stated above, your system is (or was) charged with R12. You will have to change over to the R134A. These kits allow you to add it to your older system, as the newer A/C recharge kits will not fit on your car as it is now.

Any further advice from me would be pure B.S. So I'll quit while I'm ahead.

Hope it helps!!

<dismounts tall equine>
Between friends: Gentlemen,

My country has it's own failings where the dollar is more important than the environment, but we are slowly catching up to the green world via a change of government etc. I have noticed that the US seems reluctant to get on board even worse than us, unless there's a dollar to be made, of course. Yes, we are the biggest poluters per capita in the world, and there is good reason for some of that-related to our vast country and it's low population, <10% your population density on the same area of land. Our cities go out rather than up to house our people. Almost all major cities are in deep valleys, and transporting goods across the country requires considerable energy expenditure. Our manufacturing is centralised near most of our larger cities, and because it's (so far) cheaper, we do not use multiple distributed manufacturing as a national policy. Each manufactureer has only one location where they make each product wherever possible, and transports the goods throughout the country. We are extremely transport dependent, and our rail service is 'disorganised' between the states-standard gauge is still very rare, relatively speaking. I'm not responsible for these messes, I inherited them, and like the rest of the long-suffering taxpayers, can't afford to fund the necessary changes. We are 7M taxpaying citizens, and we can't afford any more imposed costs just to please the rest of the world. Our small economy can't fund it. Look at thedamage to our stock market the 28/6/08 caused->$600,000,000 cash was pulled out that day, and we are going to take many months to recover. Some of our most powerfull stocks are down >40% in 6 mths, just because of the size of our economy, this, and the sub prime crisis. Unfortunately, water supplies and social and infrastrucuture capitals are so stressed that sudden mass immigration in not a practical solution. Here in Perth, our real estate is booming up, and the poorer people are finding it hard to afford their rentals. the population has grown by 150 people a day here in Perth for the last 4yrs, and will continues for another 8yrs or so Vacancy rates are <1%, in a city of 1.2M. Owning your own home is now impossible for many young people, without transgenerational loans and parental assistance. Unfortunately, there are too many people who want to plunder our people and charge as if they were New York Lawyers, and make themselves extremely wealthy, dodge their tax obligations and expect all to be well. They take out so much disproportionate GDP that the rest of us suffer from paying them. Parasites! they are relatively few, but very damaging. How much do you actually need to live on? Pensioners get $273pw. Unemployed less, and students less still. CEO's take home millions though, even id a -ve year, and they call that justice? As was said, "money doesn't make happiness'.: A man with $10M is no happier than a man with $9M, but I think I have less worries than either.

My fridge is 18yrs old, and has not been regased, nor topped up, so I expect it to be R12. All new fridges are R134A by legislation, and unless some el-cheapo manufacturer breaks the law, with it's consequences, all units are so. Mind you, there are such people about, and they usually reside in 3rd world countries where the rule of law/magna carta principles are ineffective. See China etc. I haven't found anyone willing to sell me R12, they are afraid to do so because of the law, and the conversion makes them money. I have not asked them to sell it, they have all volunteered that information as I have researched the same problem. I did know of the existence of the kits, but was unaware they were still available. My readings of this & other fora have indicated that the USA has not legislated out the continued use of R12. That is a disappointment, tho' I'd be gratified if it were so, and then I would expect forum members to know & behave accordingly and not premote illegal activity. That would end such posts as this.

R-12 hasn't been manufactured or imported in the US since 1995. You can still buy old cans of it off E-Bay but you need an EPA section 609 certification to do so.

I use my AC very little so I decided to use freeze-12 instead of convert to R134.

<falls off motorcycle, bumps head on equines privates>
sir, i bow my head to a person of your intelligence. i understand your plight being that i have family in sydney and karlgoolie (spelling) they are blasters working the mines there. honestly, i don't know if they know how much money they have, while their, and mine, cousins in sydney struggle to make ends meet. between money sent by my siblings and myself, and money that is sent from the rest of the families around the world, they make do. but the situation is the same all over. england, scotland, cyprus, greece, austalia, and here is the us and canada. it's not only the usage of R-12, but the usage of ddt as pesticides, the inability for the world to get china to chill out with polluting the water and the air. the speculators in the us with their oil, increasing the price of fuel every 10 hours. granted, the price is cheaper here than the rest of the world, but hey, when you are used to something as is, you get pissed off when it goes up. we, in the us, can't make up our own minds as to what constitutes recycling. in my restaurants, besides the rest of my families places, we are hit every 5-6 weeks with inspections. half the time i have fines of $10,000.00 an inspection, and then 6 weeks and $600 in lawyers fees and 6,000.00 in lost revenue, i get a clean bill of health, until the effin city needs more cash. i can drive right over to shea stadium, right not, and walk into any one of the so called "a/c repair shops" and buy as much R-12 as you would like. of course, they can smell a cop a mile away, and know who is a cop and who is an inspector. so, yes sir, i agree with you. but as you said, i also can't do a thing. neither can two of us. 3/4 of this country could agree with us, but we would still not have any change because we aren't the monied and we drive the wrong car, are the wrong color, too many tattooes, not enough tattooes, wrong sex, too much sex, or no sex. i salute you for your insight and your intelligence and wish you good cheer and peace. now excuse me while i get off this hight horse, because the height is making me light headed. :thumbsup:

Commiserations, & Thank you, I trust you at least enjoy 'le soup de jour'. Yes, it's little different here, I was AUSSUMING from the wordings of the posts on the forum that your government was slacking. We have the other alledged problem that if yellow or red roadworthiness stickers (which require the vehicle to be inspected again) are put on the windscreen at an angle, it's a secret sign not to pass it, as the driver is a hoon, or other reason. I guess you'd have it too.

um, robert, which book do you mean? just asking, not accusing. and before you quote from any materials pertaining to the legality of said refrigerant, come to new york and i'll tell you, crap, i'll DRIVE you to the places where you can get it. and new cans, not old cruddy ones, either. i am sure that you know that there are individuals that can obtain anything, and if you think that is bs, my friend you run with a clean crowd. and for manxman, the square that you are talking about, there isn't anything as abvious as that, but profiling is a BIG DEAL here in the city. ask any major metropolitan munincipality and you will hear the same. i fell for you, bro. :thumbsup:
