I am thinking of buying another Volvo - There is a 1998 Volvo S70 Turbo for sale in my area for around 6 - I was gonna offer around 5 or 5500. She has 95K miles...

Any opinions?

More information would help. Service records, damage etc. Have a TRUSTED mechanic check it out and see what needs to be fixed. Also, check NADA and Kelley Blue Book for prices. Let us know what you decide.

carfax it, and like jks2 posted, have a trusted mechanic look it over. offer 4800.00 if the carfax looks shady. if all is well and all was taken care of offer 5. unless mech says otherwise. good luck.

good yes, how was it serviced? have their been any recalls that haven't been addressed? all service records done by the dealer. any lapses? if there are any lapses, look to see at what mileage intervals. if there is a huge gap, see if the owner had it done outside the dealer. if so, do they have any receipts? i know it sounds kind of anal, but the point all volvos are a little finicky when it comes to servicing. it has to be done regularly, especially a turbo such as the one that you are looking at. when the mech looks it over, i am sure that they will de a code scan, but gently remind them to do it. if gentle doesn't work, hit them with a bat. good luck and hope you get it.

iT'S FROM A DEALER AND NO SERVICE RECORDS ARE ON THE CARFAX REPORT. ONLY THE SERVICE WHEN THE DEALER TOOK OVER - AND IT SAID PRE-SALE INSPECTION - BATTERY REPLACED.

I CANT IMAGINE FOR 10 YEARS THE SAME OWNER NEVER SERVICED IT - JUST NEVER AT A DEALER I GUESS?

HEATHER

P.S. - IS THERE A WAY TO SHARE THE CARFAX REPORT ON HERE?

Ok -So right now I have this car for an "extended" test drive to take to my mechanic, etc.

They did not have the service records from the prior owner (this is a dealer) and it was a one owner car. The dealer said that he thinks I can go to any volvo place and they can get into the main database and all records should be there if it was taken to any dealer.

I called one dealer and they were not helpful. Do you guys know of any way I can get the service records? Its not on carfax.

if the info from voa checks out, i'd go for it, but i also bought my second harley in eight milk crates only to later find out that 1/4 of the engine was missing. it all boils down to you, do you like the car? if so, go for it.

OK - So I am the proud new owner of a 98 S70. The actual asking price of the car was 6377 (before tax tag and title) and I got it out the door for 5600. I hope she is good to me - I will be good to her.
