Greetings. Our family car, the "Blue Goose",a 1990 240 wagon, has this strange problem that I can't figure out. Occasionally she will stall out while cruising down the highway at speeds varying from 20 to 50 miles per hour. A sudden loss of power, with no jerking or sputtering, and a few seconds later the dash lights will come on. I coast to a safe stop and try to start up. She won't start. But then, after a spell lasting from a minute to a half hour, she'll start up again and usually the problem won't happen for awhile.

Here's what I've done so far: new rotor, plugs, wires, distributor cap. New fuel filter and new fuel pump relay. Battery is strong. Had this problem last fall, then it went away for months, and now it's back again. It usually happens during (or after a day of) hot weather, but not always. Any ideas? Thanks

1. Crank position sensor.
2. 25-amp fuse at left fender.
3. Oops. Scratch #3. You already replaced the fuel pump relay.

Have you tried the ignition coil? I've had other cars (VW Beetle) with a Bosch coil crap out when it got hot. I threw a nice, fat spark when cold, but hardly anything after driving around for awhile.
