Until recently, I just had a '93 850 with the single bulb headlights. Removing and replacing the bulb was easy.
I've just gotten a '95 with 88K miles and it's in nice shape, but my left low beam bulb is burned out - that's the bulb toward the center of the vehicle. What do I need to do to remove the bulb? Special tool? Find a teeny-weeny person to send in to the headlight housing? :) Any assistance would be much appreciated. RC in VT |

I have never played around with a 1993 headlights. OK, i have never seen a 1993 850 to begin with. I know there're a few around here, but i never had the chance to see what the little differences it has.
But on the headlights, the first time i had to change my bulbs, i just poked my big head in between the engine and the front end, and took a good look at the locking mechanism. Damn, i told myself, how the heck do i remove this. But a squeeze and a pull later, hey, its not that bad. :) Try it. |

Bear hes got a 95. The 93 has single bulbs, the 95 has two separate bulbs. If it was a 93 I could tell him.

Oh, a 95. Then thats similar to mine.
But then again, he could still look to see how the lock engages. it will help to know that when he wants to fix it back in later. |

Well, it turns out to be fairly simple to extract one of these bulbs ... about 30-45 degrees of counterclockwise rotation of the bulb and it releases. The difficulty is in finding 1. the right place to stand, and 2. getting you hand in just the right position to fit through the opening, get a hold of the bulb, and exert adequate torque to overcome the locking detent.

You should know if you dont already that you can not touch the glass on those bulbs and you should use some bulb grease on the connections to make iut easier to get them off next time you change them and it makes a better connection. The bulb grease is usually near the cash register in stores.
