IPD's RIP kit is listed for '95-'98 model year cars. What's different on the '94 that makes it not fit? I sent IPD an e'mail and asked them, but I guess they were busy.
thanks

DOnt the 1994 ones already come with the reverse piping, from factory?

I just picked up a '94 turbo wagon and it doesn't have it. Could be something that changed during production, but I don't see them changing it during the first year of production (for the turbo), and changing it to a system that is less efficient. I could be wrong though. Certainly wouldn't be the first time.

But going back to your intial query, what makes you think the IPD's RIP kit wont fit the 1994 turbos?

Because they list it on their site for '95-'98 vehicles. I wouldn't imagine there is any substantial difference in the '94, but I don't know.

If its a turbo, i dont think so either. But maybe cos i'm used to see mine and friends' cars which are usually 1995 onwards.

I still haven't heard from IPD, which is mildly annoying since I'm driving right past their place next week and had planned on spending some money. Anyway, I found this on their website, regarding silicon hoses:

"Not for use on cars that have reverse intercooler piping kits installed or on some early 1994 models that may still have the original over the engine intercooler pipe routing that was recalled by Volvo in 1995."

Anybody know why it was recalled?

Rosso,

EXACTLY the SAME question i posed to a Dealer's Service Advisor here. He too, couldnt answer me.

I mean, WHY did Volvo recall the RIP?
If it is truly recalled, is it then still a good idea to fit one in?
(I HAVE to ask, cos i JUST bought an original RIP kit, just waiting to be installed...)

weird, when i bought my rip kit from them, they actually encouraged me to get silicone hoses. so being the man that i am, i caved in and bought them. mine is a 96. don't know if that makes a difference. but a quick look at the 850 garage and you'll see a couple of other members who have silicone hoses and a rip kit installed.

The whole thing seems a little odd to me, which is probably why they never responded to my e'mail. Maybe I'll send them a link to this thread and see if they have an answer.

Nothing wrong with the silicone hoses, as far as I'm concerned. They were simply pointing out that the ones I was looking at were for the factory (after the recall) setup, not for a RIP setup. My post wasn't really aimed at anything to do with the silicone hoses but rather I was commenting on the factory RIP setup and why it was recalled. Personally, I'll be using silicone too, as soon as I figure out which pipe routing I'm going with.

I have both, but the rip kit is lying still in my store. Waiting.
