Hi all, I am a newbie just found your site, I have a 1998 Volvo V70 AWD, Turbo with just over 106,000 kilometeres
(Canada) and a strange warning light came on its orange with green triangle in the middle I assume is a check engine light, its not listed anywhere in my manual.

The other strange thing is the car had a very loud fan blowing noise when I shut the car off for about 3 minutes, it has now stopped but warning light is still on
Does anyone know what this could be?

Thanks kindly :)

It should be in the manual. If it's the same as my light it has something to do with the lambda signal / emissions being incorrect. Mine has been on ever since converting it to LPG, but everything is working fine. Yours will be different though of course so it might be worth getting it checked out.

That will be the fan then ! If your engine is very hot when you come to a stop and switch the engine off, the fan will continue to run until it has cooled sufficiently.

anywhere, car seems to be running fine, will see if it goes off by itself after another week, then will get it checked out

Think this could be the engine managment system light, I had a light like this come on in my 2001 xc70 and it was the throttle module that needed replaced, and in the UK that cost £300+ like $600+

There was also a fan recall for my model, as the fan ran on too much and that overheated.......check recall info

there was a post in the 850 forum about a symbol like yours. have you had the codes scanned? i would start there first and work up. do a search for any recalls for your vehicle, and a call to the dealership along with your vin should tell you if the recall was ever done on your 70. good luck and keep us posted, please, as to your progress and what was found out.

THanks, I havent had the codes scanned, dont even know how to do that, I will
likely take it in next week sometime, the dealer said can drive it with light on

I am hoping it will just go off one day by itself but that may be wishful thinking.

if you do a search on goggle for obdII scanners you will come up with links to different companies that sell them. it is a phone sized unit, sometimes smaller or bigger-depends on the features. now the smaller units will just tell you the problem, the larger (and more expensive units) will allow you to see what the problem is, not just the code, and be able to erase them. for me, the price was worth it since i now know what the problem is without having to go to the dealer or mechanic. this way i know exactly what is needed and with a little searching, how to fix it and how much it will cost.

Hi all: just want to report what the Volvo Dealer found,
they had to replace the coolant temp sensor and thermostat, so thankfully not as major as I was thinking it could be. the temp sensor was out about 10 degrees

Total cost with tax $350.00

The sad part of this is that the exact thing was replaced 14 months before at at another volvo garage to which I shall never return!!!!!

And they recommend a tune up as last tune up was at 49,000 KILOMETRES And
I now have 102,000 KILOMETRES

Thanks to all who responded, this is a great forum

Cheers

Diane
