This was my message:

I own a very early 1993 volvo 850 glt and I am looking to replace my ecu air filter located at the front of the engine bay. It is very small and I can not find a replacement. I want to know what the part number is on this part so it will make it much easier when going to the dealership to get it, or order it over the phone. Thank you Volvo!

1st Reply:

Hello Matt,

Thank you for contacting Volvo cars of North America. Please call you local Volvo retailer and ask for the parts department. They will be able to help you with the part number and any other questions you may have. If you need help finding a retailer near you please call us at (800)458-1552.
Sincerely,
Betty
Volvo Customer Care

My 1st Reply back:

This was unhelpful, you did not even answer my question.
Thanks for nothing,
Mat

2nd Volvo Reply:

Hello Mat,

I am sorry you feel that way. We do not have part numbers here and the best place to obtain that information would be at the Volvo retailer.

Sincerely,

Betty
Volvo Customer Care

Can you guys believe this? I think it is sorry and pathetic. I bet if I was interested in buying a new car she could have helped me. The reason I wanted the part number was so I could search for it since I can not find it by searching "ECU air filter 93 volvo 850" this way maybe I could find it cheaper or dimensions and find a diferent one.

OK, i just came back from my Volvo parts clerk's place. The part number is 3515175-2 (you can omit the '-2' when ordering i think). I have taken a snapshot using my handphone-camera but i forgot the card reader. *sigh*

She further admits that the filter is not used a lot, and when i checked with the 10-inch parts manual, apparently its only for 850s up to the manufactured year of 1993! Which prolly explains why i also didnt have one.

Anyway, now that you know the parts number, go make an order.

Nothing special. Just some oil filters for me and my friends. And thermostats. And oh, we're changing the exhaust manifold + gaskets on 2 B5234Ts this weekend. This one should be a little of a challenge. Especially consdering the weight of those buggers and since we havent come about to invest in a crane-lifter yet.

Hehehe...

How did it go?

Went GREAT!

Opened up 2 more T5 engines, but only up to the intake manifold and changed the PCVs, teflon gaskets, cleaning of the IACVs, TBs, intake manifold, thermostats etc.

The one with the exhaust manifold gasket project wants to postpone it, so we said OK. I took some photos, will put them up later.

Sounds good. Ummm wjere can I get these teflon gaskets you are all the time talking about? If I need to replace them then I will get those if I ever happen to need one. Also a question comes to mind. When is a good mileage to rebuild a B5254 like I have?

Oh, someone sparked the idea of QBM, if not mistaken. But that was one of a different material. We customised the gasket and had it CNC cut.

Good mileage to rebuilt? If it was up to me, id say prolly NEVER! Hehehe.
But i guess normally people would go through it, when the head gasket goes.
