Hi Guys n Gals
I'm new to this forum, I have owned my Volvo V40 for about 6months and spent about £900 on repairs. I feel like a lot of the money shouldn't have been spent and I should have come to a place like this a long time ago.

My problem

I left my car sitting for about a month and only started it a couple of times within that month, when I got back in, there was a ticking noise and all the lights were flashing on and off when I turned the key (not when I tried to turn it over). When I tried to turn it over everything just stopped.
Not knowing much about cars I thought it might be the battery, I then put the battery on charge for 2 days with out any results. I got a mate down to take a look. We followed the ticking and it lead us to the relay labelled "Engine" (We're guessing it's for the engine management system). I spent £92.99 on a new battery and £14.21 on a new relay. I then put everything together and tried again to find that the problem was still there, exactly the same.

To cut a long story short

We think I need to change the engine management system, I've been told it should just click in and out. I know where there's a V40 exactly the same as mine in a scrap yard, but I dont know where to find the peice I need to change.

I looked in the haynes manual, found a link on this website to a place to download free, thanks guys. (oh and I saved it if anyone needs it) but it didn't say where I can find it.

I am desperate for your help, I am going on holiday in it on saturday this week. lol
