I have been having a power steering fluid leak. One of my steering boots had a rip in it. I replaced it, but my question is. Should there be fluid in the boots themselves? I have a manual but I couldn't see anywhere about a seal at the end of the gear box. When I turn the car on the boot I replaced fills up with fluid and when I check the fluid level I need to put more in.
Thanks for your help.

I do not know, but here's something to think about: If the fluid goes into the boot in a large quantity, then what happens as you quickly rotate the steering wheel lock to lock to lock etc etc?
The obvious conclusion is that you check the leakage with the boot off and the motor running. I'd suspect your power steering outer seal of having failed, and you'd replace them as a complete set by recon the 'box. .

Steering boxes are a known early fault source (~80,000mi+), replacement new, NON-OEM might be servicable & cheaper than o'haul and re-kit.
g'luck
PS: I looked it up. 3/4Oz lube usually in boot until seal failure. There are several seals, and it can get ugly and expensive. DIY is not difficult, but as you appear to have partial seal failure, I'd recommend immediate repair/replacement and absolutely no use until fixed properly.

If a seal ruptures completely, it may cause the steering to suddenly jam on extreme lock on one side, and then even Spiderman won't be able to hold it straight. That could easily have fatal consequences, by the V, if not in the V.

Thanks, that answered everything I needed. As soon as it happened I got it home and haven’t driven it since. Luckily nothing did lock up. It had enough fluid to get me home. Looks like I have a nice little project for Saturday.
Again thanks for your help.
