Hi
I have a 1994 960 wagon with 144,000 miles. I have a problem with the AC when the car is under accelleration. The AC works fine and blows cold but when you depress the accellerator the fan goes off and the AC stops, take your foot off the gas and it will go back to normal. I tried to locate a vaccum leak but all looks fine. Any Ideas?

Thanks
Jim

Hi,

Check the freon level!
You can check this by jumping the high pressure switch (the plug in the accomulator), if this fixs the AC going on and off you have low freon level.

I believe you are on the right track, vacuum leaks. The 960 is notorious for a leaking bellows/vacuum motor. Most likely that is the problem, there is a short cut for the not faint of heart, verses doing it long way, which requires total removal of the dashboard.

Some just disconnect and plug for that vacuum motor, then you will not get air flow to the floor. Not good for those who live in cold weather areas.

 When you're accelerating, the AC automatically shuts off, that's normal.

In order to give maximum horsepower to the rearwheels while increasing speed, the AC compressor shuts down...and comes back in after decreasing.
