Hello everyone. I’m trying to track down what else I could have fried in connection with my A/C condenser fan. A couple days ago, I found a good and working condenser fan for my 1991 240 in a salvage yard. I pulled the part from a ‘93 240. I checked the fan in the office at the yard with an electrical connection they had set up, and it worked.

When I got home, the first thing I noticed was that the plastic housing of the female electrical connection coming from the car’s wiring harness was deteriorated. The wire was fine however. After just removing the old plastic connector, I started the car, turned on the AC and plugged the fan once again just to check its function a second time. It still worked.

As, I unplugged the fan, however (I still needed to actually mount it) I made the mistake of allowing the two, unprotected, female end wires to touch. I got a small spark and the engine died. Worried, I tried to start the car, but luckily it stared right up. The problem is, now I can’t get and electricity from the female wires to plug into and power the condenser fan. I checked my fuses, and they all look good. Is there anything else I can check to get the juice flowing again and get my new/used fan working? Thanks for reading.

insulate the exposed terminals immediately! All battery voltage wires MUST be female sockets to prevent shorts! fan has 2 wires, and you shorted them with it running, now it won't work? fault not in fan, or fuse, but prob in a relay, switch or their wiring to Earth in the car. check the fan again by putting 12V directly across it and verify it good, then you know you've burned something somewhere else-badly, since it stalled your motor.

Okay folks. For those of you interested, I’m happy to say, problem solved. It was the relay. Thanks for your advice, Manxman. :liebe011: The part # is 899931 1323592-1 (I don’t know if all that or just part of it is the part number). Standing in front of the car, this relay can be found on the right side of the engine compartment right next to the ignition coil. After seeing a cooling fan relay for Volvo on alloemparts.com, I then knew what to look for. I’m not much of an electrician, so it was easier for me to just find the relay in a junk yard and plug it in to see if it worked and, voila! It did! Condenser fan works as it should.

Sorry so long in getting back with a result.
