Hi all,

I'm new to the forum :00000732: and have tried searching for answers to my problem, but either A. the answer I'm looking for isn't there or B. my searching skills are letting me down. :offtopic:

Anyway, the problem... :right:

2001 S60 2.0T SE in the UK

"ALARM SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED" is the big flashy message I've got from the dashboard, and as a result I tested the alarm (locked car, went away, came back, opened using keys only).

Flashing lights, no noise...

The car's been to the local dealer for diagnostic and they told me what I already knew (it needed a new Alarm Siren). Fortunately, I didn't pay for the dealer to tell me that, but my question is...

Is it possible to buy the part & fit it yourself without needing the dealer to do anything? Or is it going to be a case of they need to program it all afterwards using specifically Volvo only dealership software? :o_75:

I'm more than happy to fit the thing myself and save a bundle on labour charges, but I'm also struggling to find the part as well...

Any and all info is much appreciated.

:liebe011: <_<

Cheers raydar.

So would fitting the new one not only work but also stop the dashboard message "Alarm System, Service Required"?

Also, any ideas on where to get the part in the UK?

I don't know for sure but I would have thought that after you have replaced the siren and locked / unlocked the car - it would probably do a self check and the message would disappear

How have you got on Top Cat? My S60 T5 is doing very similar things. The alarm goes off when the car is alarmed. It seems to be okay when locked by the key. I am hoping to do it myself. Did you replace the alarm siren yourself? Any advice would be gratefully received!

No joy, I'm afraid.

Seems that the only solution I've found is to go back to dealer and have it replaced for around £141 or so (inc. VAT). Can't source the part at all.

It was a problem that doesn't effect the running of the car, so it had been left until now, coz of my line of work I'm doing 20,000+ miles a year, and the way fuel prices are going at the moment, it's time for a change.

So, a new alarm siren will have to go in along with a couple of other bits and pieces before she's sold!

Hi,

I have the same message " Alarm system service required" on my 2002 Volvo S80 2.4L.
I had a look behind the splashguard under the right hand front wheel arch for the alarm siren but it does not appear to be there. There is no holes or anything like that so it has not fallen off.
I did hear that it may be behind one of the headlights has anyone had a similar issue? Is this perhaps just a european spec as I am in the UK.
The alarm does appear to arm and the hazards flash when activated so I am assuming the alarm siren is the fault.

Any advice welcome

It should be there :o Drivers side under the front wheel splashguard on a metal support. Heres's the PDF if it helps

Perhaps the previous owner took out the siren and the holes have been clogged with dirt?
