Hello, this is my first post! I am the proud owner of my first Volvo, I love it! its a 98 S40. It didn't come with front fogs, I've installed them and found the harness inside, just waiting on the switch to arrive, my question is this:- Can I just plug the switch in and they'll work? I've been reading lots about software updates, am I going to need on? Thanks for any help you can give me, its much appriciated.

I have your answer!

The switch should already be in the dash also next to the rear fog light switch. My 2004 had a fake button which you pop out and then just pop the new button in.

YES you do need to go to a dealer to get the fog lamps turned on. There is no software download, but they need to connect it to the Volvo VIDA system to program the module to power the fog lights.

The dealer I went to charged for 1 hour of labor, but they ripped me off I no longer go there.

if there is a wire already it is a plug and play buddy, all you have to do is match the wire for the fog lamps and connect it and then mount he switch near the head light switch on your left then it will work.
