My non-power antenna looks to be broken off, & I'd like to replace the booger. Of course, most places only have the power masts. Have any of you had any joy in adding some sort of aftermarket antenna to replace the OEM antenna? I'd like to install some sort of mast with a booster coil mast, since both the stock radio & my new deck get horrible AM reception
Cheers
Marty

Unbelievably, I found one at NAPA, of all places. There's a small space between the base of the mast and the mount base, but not enough to matter. They come in both black & chrome & run about $9.00.

do you have a part number for that antenna from napa??

and where is your antenna located?

I have a 240 sedan with the antenna on the rear drivers side quater panel. do you think the one you bought would work?

Yeah these stores amaze me too, I went to PepBoys or Kragen (forgot which one0 and they had the haynes manual for the 240 series...and at a decent price I was jumping for joy =D

I second the request for a part number! I went to NAPA and bought one today for around $8 that looked like it would work on my '92 240 Wagon, but I could not figure out any iteration that would fit.
Thanks!

I'm thinking the part # is 7304849. This was to replace the antenna mast at the LR corner of the 240 wagon. The image shows silver, but the one I got is black, 1-section. Runs about $10. Cheers

I think the AM in radios nowadays is pittyful. The manufacturers seem to have no interest in making good AM sections. If you remember the older radios back when AM was more viable they were good. In fact, I had a 1961 Ford with the tube radio that is better than my new Alpine.

Do any of these anteneas seem to help AM? Maybe you are better off finding a good old radio and sticking it in the upper or lower dash where your other radio isn't. Then install a speaker in the center of the dash for it. You can get a fit kit for it at Parts Express.

Absolutely. The ones in my 61 Falcon & my 56 Victoria(with WonderBar) worked great. Of course, stations had to deal with way less multipath from way less buildings, cars, & electronic slop back when 544's were new
