Hello everyone, I had the unpleasant surprise to see that my trusted 1993 440xi with less than 80k on the clock had its steering wheel snapped off :( , I guess in an attempt to steal it. I'm not sure on what the correct part is or what the cost factors are on fitting it (I am no expert but I have a few friends who could help to keep the labour costs down). Any ideas on this would be greatly appreciated.

If you're Steering wheel has been snapped off you'll probably find that the steering collumn will need to be replaced mate,The same thing happened to a mate who lost his keys and tried to snap the lock so he could drive his car home the result was a complete collumn which is basically

1. Steering wheel
2.Everything between the wheel and the steering rack not including switch gear or anything like that.

Dear mister-h

Sorry to learn of your misfortune.

I have very recently replaced my steering column on my 440, down to the universal joint. Good used replacements are inexpensive and easy to fit if you put your faith in the gospel acording to Mr Haynes. :amen:

However, just a small warning, make sure that the shaft on the replacement column is long enough. My replacement was too short as those with an airbag need a longer shaft. You will save much potential huffing and puffing.

Good luck.
