Hello, so when I picked up the car no light came on. Few days after it sat in the driveway before I was able to get it registered, I turned it on and the service light came on. (I am coming from only owning VW's and none of my VW's had a service light and well I wouldnt of needed on as I do and track everything myself.)

It stays one for about 2 to 3 mins and then off it goes. Car runs fine, no issues other then the ac not being very cold, but all it needs is a charge I think.

So, what does the service light mean in the Volvo's? Just that the oil needs to be changed? Something else needs looking after?

And just to add another question. Can I still get the ac charged??

I have a 1991 240!!

ok, so I should of done a search first but now that I have done a search I found a few threads. they mention a whole, is this hole in the instrument cluster to the right?

in my instrument cluster there are 3 pegs, on in the middle for the mileage, one to the left for the clock and then one to the right but it seems to be broken, so I was wondering is that the service light hole or a broken peg, and if it is a broken peg, what does it do?

thanx

I think theres a lever on the back of the cluster for resetting the service light

for the AC has it been recharged with R134a freon before or is it on the original R12 freon charge ?

I dont know when it was last recharged or with what. I have owned a number of cars with no ac (VW Rabbit's) and it didnt bother me much. But I am curious about this one since it still seems to be working.

1991-If the system is tagged with yellow, then R134A, there is a change of seals colour too, but no details IMH,but I think this is pre-R134A. ANY a/c work will require a changeover of gas-not cheap, but you shouldn't be able to get R12 any more. It's illegal to sell/supply it here, tho' it is to be collected for destruction (collect & flush with CO2=$50-), but I don't know your rules. opening the system to the environment is not acceptable behaviour, and may be criminal?
