We are long time 240 owners but seem to have continual problems with our 240 wagon getting hot. The car temp is fine with or without the AC until summer arrives here in N Central Texas, then any AC use causes the car temp gauge to come very close to the redline and this is highway driving. we never use it in the city. it redlines. At any tempature of around 85 or below it is no problem, but when it gets into the 90's and above (when you really need it) it gets hot. and when you turnoff the AC the car temp stays hot unless you run the heater to cool it down, My wife and kids really love the heater technique of lowering the temp! The other issue is that after it gets hot when you stop and shut off the motor, you have to let the car cool off (hood up helps) about 30 minutes before the car will crank again, starts fine but starter will not crank. Replaced the starter to no avail. Car has approx 230K and has no other drivetrain problems. Save my marriage and tell me what needs to be done to cool this puppy off.

With a properly operating engine cooling system the car should be able to idle in 100 degree weather with the A/C on.

Radiators are pretty cheap and easy to install. Is yours original?

Do you have a fan clutch or electric fan?

How about the thermostat. Has it been checked?

When was the last time you did a coolant flush and replace with 50/50?

Post back.
