S60's are good cars. The earlier models that used the Magneti-Mareli throttle control module (TCM) were involved in a recall. They are covered with a 10 year/200,000 mile warranty by Volvo. That would be the first thing that I check when looking at one. Otherwise it boils down to whether you want NA or Turbo, FWD or AWD, and how many bells and whistles, although most Volvo's come with pretty much all the bells and whistles already. Gas mileage, on the NA that I drive, is around 30 highway and 22 city. Plenty of pick up, they handle great and look pretty good too. All in all I don't think you would go wrong in looking at an S60.

Thank you, I am looking for non-turbo fwd. It is a one owner lease turn in. It is a 2004 model with 54k for 12,900 and is white with grey cloth seats. I did see where there were three recalls I believe for the model which I'm checking into to make sure it was serviced. Other than that if anyone else has any info, I think it ill be a go.

Thanks,

Well for that price, miles, and year it's a pretty good deal. 2005 was when Volvo did some minor updates on the cars (the 05 headlights look more modern for example). I would say make sure you get a carfax on the vehicle - you'd be surprised how many people try to resell salvaged cars.

If you can I'd try to take the car into a local mechanic also for a pre-buy inspection. A lot of places will do it for $100 or less - and I believe Pep Boys does it pretty quickly. Although for a car that age with those miles you're probably unlikely to find any major issues you never know - especially if you're not a car expert. And even if you are it's a $100 that I'd rather spend having some peace of mind.

Also if can't get the service history try to find out where it was serviced. Most shops keep their own records of car services, and many are very friendly and will send you the service history if you send them the VIN. Not only will it help you find out if it's a lemon or poorly serviced, but can tell you how hard the car was driven, what problems have already been fixed, and what service you need soon.
