Hi all I am new to this site .

hopefully someone will be able to help me

I have a volvo S80 T6 SE 2001 with built in sat nav. when i bought the car the guy who i bought it off said he lost the discs for the sat nav so i sourced some off ebay and paid 50 quid for them . i put them in my cd-rom changer in the boot which is solely for the sat nav i loaded up the screen and an error message came up on the screen saying remove the disc casette and re insert it so i have done that about 500 times and still says the same thing it looks for the cd's on the screen and then comes up with that message . Please anyone have any advice i have already tried running a lens cleaner through it but still doesnt work . I dont want to Pay Volvo £100 for them to just find out what the problem is any help would be greatly apprieceiated

Hi

I have the same problem with the RTI on my 2001 V70 only it was working fine and then just stopped functioning with the same message as you.

I took the CD Changer out of its mounting and then removed the top and bottom panels to see the workings. When I reconnected and inserted the cartridge, I can see the mechanism for loading the CDs working fine but when the system tries to read the disks they're not spinning up. I presume this is a failure in the CD drive itself. I also presume that this can't easily be fixed.

I'm trying to track down replacements for the unit (part no 8651018) and will let you know how I get on.

It appears to me that your seller probably knew this and just discarded the disks....

Cheers

Mark

Bad news and good news.

The bad news is that I rang up a volvo dealer to enquire about availability of new cd changers. They're available from Sweden but are £735 + VAT - a mind-boggling £ 863 or €1,100.

The good news is that when I took it off the covers last night I took the chance to dust out the insides, clean up connections and generally have a much around. When I reconnected tonight it worked again...

I don't know how long for but who cares as I won't be coughing up at that cost. I'll keep an eye open on Ebay instead just waiting for it to fail again.

Cheers

Mark
