I have a 1993 940 that has had everything under the sun done. I just had the Crankshaft belt changed and thats when the problem with my RPM started on top of that I had a gas line leak which has been repaired. Can anyone help me by telling me what could be the problem with my car?? Why is it not shifting when at 45mph I'm going at 3000 rpms?

Overdrive solenoid most likely. Or the relay for it possibly. Search for overdrive solenoid and you'll find a lot of stuff.

Really I was told it was the Regina Rexx system and someone else said it is the shift cable unit.. I have to use the OD button in older for the car to get up to speed and catch up with the RPM.

More information would be helpful. What exactly does it do? What do you mean by "using the OD button" to get up to speed? You mean you have to push the OD button in (causing the orange arrow to come on) otherwise it will shift into overdrive too early and bog the engine?

Changing a belt shouldn't affect anything, neither should repairing a gas line leak.

If it's not shifting into OD then it will be running about 2800 rpm in 3rd gear at 45 mph (with your foot on the gas in order to engage the torque converter). This is what it sounds like you're describing.

Just give us more information and we'd be glad to help you.

Ok it just won't catch up with the engine (rpm) when going 20mph its already over 2000 rpm. I was told to use the OD button when I get the car to get up to about 35 than push the button. I have never had a problem with these things before until after I had the craftshaft belt replaced, air fliter, and closed that gas leak the next day after all these things was done the car wouldnt shift up as I picked up speed. The engine goes faster but not the car it self. But after riding for a hr or more it automatically shift in to the correct gears and rides like a dream. But that is after I have been driving for a long period of time.

Do the easiest thing first change the trans fluid and filter. If its really nasty do it twice. maybe $50. make sure the level is where it should be. Then . . . . ..

If the engine is speeding up but the car is not... I'd lean towards transmission slipping. Have you checked your fluid level lately? If it works better after driving for a while it could be because the fluid and transmission have heated up and aren't slipping as badly. Torque converter could possibly be going bad. I'm having trouble relating this problem to either the crankshaft belt, air filter, or gas leak.

If your engine RPM is too high for the speed (which is what it sounds like you're telling me) then pressing the OD button to lock it out of overdrive isn't going to do anything at all. Especially at 20 mph. It won't shift into overdrive until about 45 mph probably, depending upon gas pedal position.

If it isn't shifting up high enough it could be a transmission kickdown adjustment. If it's adjusted wrong it could keep your transmission from up-shifting when it should. It's generally an easy adjustment, but I've never done it on this car.
