How good a car this age might be is entirely dependent on the previous owners and how well they maintained the vehicle and how it was driven. It's a Volvo so of course it is a good car. Parts can be expensive and if you decide to buy you need to find a good TRUSTED mechanic. Some of the parts will be the same but there were both turbo and non turbo versions so there will be some differences in a few of the parts. If you're looking to buy one have it checked out before purchasing.

My 1995 Volvo 850 T5 is up to and exceeds R specs. I drive hard and have driven all over the eastern sea board. It has 240,000 miles and it is still moving. Check out my garage to see what I have done to it.

I would expect that maintenance is just like with any other car. If it has been treated well, it should be in good shape. Maintenance items and schedules are pretty much the same as with any other vehicle. Specific parts will probably cost you a little more more, as it seems many Auto Parts stores dont stock as many volvo parts as they do many other makes, or in some cases dont even list parts that would be rather common for many other brands, leaving you to having to occasionally have to get used (from salvage yards) or go to the dealer.

Volvo's are of course built very well, and have a tendency to be able to outlast many other brands out there. 200k isnt exactly pushing their limits, as with many other makes, and should still last you a long time after that if you take the time to keep basic regular maintenance.

Over in the UK the 850R was a fairly limited production run car. It was the most powerful 850 off the line at 250BHP, i also believe the suspension was uprated over the standard T5 and maybe even the T5R. I think the trim tended to differ as well.

This should amount to the number of parts off scrappers being fairley limited, so be prepared to source either new or aftermarket parts.

Like all 850's a proper service history seems to be vital.
