I have a question, I have 2004.5 s40 and the driver door does not open from outside, Is it mechanical problem or Electrical? You can open it from inside but not outside, all other doors function well except driver door from outside. I’ve had some problems with windows and looks recently which I think it is related to connecters and corrosion! Like most people!! I am kind of loosing my interest on Volvo! :( I always thought they are good quality cars but I think I made mistake! Has this happened to anybody? Thanks …

hi, yes same happened to me, bit of plastic on the door motor release broke, only fix is a trip to the dealer, so thats two cars this has happened on then, unlucky for me i had the doors set to auotolock, got out of the car when the engine was running and locked myself out, ended up getting in with a coathanger

Thanks for the reply; do you have the part number? How much did it cost you? I am trying to see if I can fix it myself. But if it is related to motor, then obviously I can’t and have to replace it! Thank You

sorry, might be cheaper than i thought, they replaced the cable on looking at the invoice and it cost me £138.00 all in including fitting, let them do it as i tried dismantling the door and was very complicated even though i know a lot about cars, it was hassle so i let them do it part number was 09486938 retails at £8.30!!

I took it to an independent Volvo store and they changed it for me… first they told me one cable and then they told me there is another one broken too!! I am not sure if they broke it when they wanted to open or it was actually broken…. Cost me $220 here in FL…. I called the dealer they told me they charge me 120 for diagnostic plus whatever it is to fix it…. Thank you anyway for your information …
