(IMG:http://www.ipdusa.com/uploads/images_products_large/3311.jpg)

is it connected to the smaller hose on "C" or is it that round thing above the turbo?

i dont know anything about turbos/intercoolers/bov...

Where is the "blow off" valve?

I'm tempted to reply that it's that little thing you push down located just alongside the foot-brake pedal.

If you're referring to the aftermarket BOV and to have it installed, i've seen them fitted on either:-
1) The long METAL air hose after B, that sprawls on the engine block, or
2) The PLASTIC air hose between A and C, from the intercooler...

Because the aftermarket BOVs are usually heavy, you cant fit it on the rubber hoses.

you know, i have been waiting to see if there would be a reply. are you sure it's the BOV? you might have punched a hole in the inlet hose.

I think so too, Harry.

The rubber hoses wont be strong enough to hold the BOV in place. THe bugger need to be welded (in some cases) or bolted (in other cases) to hard structures to make it work. Making sure no leaks.

well i'm not really sure. i haven't had time to look cuz the whole car was masked for painting. but the only difference is that the "psshh" sound is like a lot longer and not as loud. but the boost seems the same.

and i'm not talking about an aftermarket one, just the stock. it does have one, right? or what else would make that sound?

The stock one? The CBV is attached to the turbo unit itself. And its not supposed to be making a sound that loud.

From factory, there shouldnt be any BOV attached to the hose above.

Ah, then that's prolly just your stock things helping. THe wastegate is not that loud.

The aftermarket BOV ones are usually loud and used to tell 'other cars' to pelase step aside...

Volvo 850 Turbo cars do not have a BOV. THey have a CBV or Compressor bypass valve. It is in the turbo itself. IF you get an intake from IPD or Eurosport tuning you will hear your CBV working and get a sound very simular to a BOV. If you want a BOV then you need a blanking plate for your CBV and then install a BOV. Forge Motorsports makes a kit for Volvo 850's.

more than likely your inner gaskets, the ones in the turbo, are probably ripped. they are just little rubber thingies. after so many years of heat cycling they get old and tear. there is a kit that you can get. it's a little bit of a pita, but it'll sure quiet it up and you'll feel the difference. the high pressure turbos, T5, T5R, Turbo and the R's all were quiet, since they were deemed a upper gentlemans car and to hear the BOV was considered a little on the lower class. they were audible, but not like an aftermarket one. at least all the stock ones that i have heard. like "boost: posted, you could block off the stock location and add an aftermarket BOV and then you would hear the pssht sound that the bear was talking about. really pisses off old ladies.
