i haven't been into volvos that long so i dont know much about them. i'm looking for a new (catback or just muffler). i dont want anything loud. i want something that sounds stock most of the time but to have a nice tone in the high rpms. kinda like stock exhausts on some modern sport cars like the cooper s or some infinity cars... i think you guys get what i'm trying to say.

so what do you recomend?

easiest way around is to order one from ipdusa.com. now, if you don't want the typical sound, get to tme.se and get one of theirs. much ballsier. think of a cross between a modded subie and an rs4 audi. deeper, but not obnoxious. but on boost, it roars. pricey, though. or get to your local exhaust outlet place and have them muck one up for you. you'll need a good turbo muffler. for a downpipe, you'll need ipdusa.com since almost all the others are real expensive. good luck and keep us posted.

yeah i saw the one on ipd. they dont have in in stock and its pretty pricy for me. the guy said it was around 700 but he thinks the price will go up when they get them. i'm looking for something that has a nice tone and is really smooth sounding. not like a roar and a straight pipe sound. i like those sounds too but i just dont think they fit the wagon. i've been watching some volvo exhaust videos on youtube and some people just make it sound like a ricer. i'm not gonna say anything bad about it cuz if they spent time on it and they like it then thats fine. but i just dont think that the wagon should sound like that.

i saw a video a while ago with a really nice one. the guy reved it and drove around and it sounded stock. but then when he was driving and gave it full boost, it had a really nice sound to it. i just cant find the video and i forgot the brand...

best thing, listen to all the cars around you, find one you like and find out what muffler they are running. then get to the local exhaust shop and have them make one. look, from the cat back ,you have a muffler a bunch of pipes, a muffler and the resonator. too much crap. the muffler at the rearmost area is huge. get a shotgun pipe for after the cat, straight pipe til the rear axle, over the hump and get a shorty tubo muffler then out the back , no reonator. now, because of the two mufflers, you'll get a nice deep sound, not ricey. with the straighter pipes, less backward bouncing of the exhaust pulses. back pressure is different, you want to cancel out the sound pulse. also with the straight pipe you'll get a better boost on. none of that tinny vibrating ricey sound. and it's cheaper than going for a high end system. just make sure that who you go to knows aftermarket exhausts, if all they do is stock pu=ipes, leave, they'll just give you a stock set up. good luck.

The last time i did my exhaust pipes, i told the guy i wanted a CLEAR NOSE (meaning POWER on demand) and LOW NOISE (meaning not too sporty sounded) that would last LONGER (meaning i dont want to be coming again for piping for the next few years)... He went to his store and came out with the double bullet with extra bedded mufflers and a 3inch stainless-steel piping...

I was happy...

That gave me a boner. So you are saying take off that huge muffler on the back go straight from the cat to the back with a small muffler on the end? Secondly how would it sound being straight from the cat and no muffler on the end. :liebe011:

Just got my catback exhaust put on from eurosport tuning and its pretty nice!
Nice deep tone at idle but its not too loud at all, in fact i kinda wish it was a little louder...
4" pipe looks great coming out the bumper too - I would recommend it
Got it on sale for about $450...i think its back up to $600something now

no piece, get rid of the first muffler, straight pipt from cat back to the second muffler, that one go for a turbo bullet muffler. no resonator, you won't need it. it will be loud though. if you have trouble with neighbors and crap like that, go for a glass-pack like first muffler, straight through, then to the larger second muffler. the glasspack is loud, but the sound is canceled from the second muffler. the back pressure is less with the glasspack so more power is sent to the second muffler. i think that is how it was explained to me. hell, the camaro and the impala are running glasspacks, nothing else. except for the cat on the impala. i've got to find the video of those two. anyway, the volvo is running a single turbo muffler, and the cat. straight pipe with electronic dumps. i especially don't care about my neighbors. good luck, eff, keep us posted. as you saw from arrolk, his is a little less noisy and he wants more (i hope he is a he and not a she  ) and of course, there is piece, who wants to wake me up from there to here. and the bear, who let the guy live. different tastes.

The bimmer is dual exhaust running together down the length of the car with a smaller muffler at the end with two pipes coming out. It sounds like it should be on laguna seca haulin balls with a ferrari on one side and a mason named harry on the other getting passed with a snow cone in hand hehe, I recorded the sound if interested.
