My rear shocks on my 960 are a bit tired and I am thinking of replacing them. Is this a fairly easy job? What would you recommend as replacements as I know the Nivomats are very expensive.

I'm in the same position here, so I'm also interested in this

While I never did this project on my car, I did attempt it, the problem I had was I had no way to get the car off the ground as high as required. The shocks go through a hole in the suspension arm that is just large enough to accommodate the diameter of the shock, so the vehicle needs to be at least the height of the shock off the ground. The only other thing is the bolts can get rusty but other than that it is just like any other shock replacement.

I think you have to stay with nivo's though, some of the model 960's do have a conversion available to replace the springs to allow for normal shocks. The kit is needed because the oem springs are lighter in resistance and need the nivo to do some of the lifting. If you were to put regular shocks on the rear would sag greatly.

I've bought a set of nivomats ,brand new,on Ebay for just $330,-.

Nothing can really replace the nivomats, but just look out for Boge or Sachs nivomats,they're the same company.

There are replacement kits ,(shocks & springs), but it's no substitute for the original ones.
