I have just walked into halfords before and bought just the coil - thats probably the £35 part, the part it mounts to, thats probably the expensive bit.

thr rotor arms are just a push fit but they can get stuck on there pretty tight.

ok another stupid question, does anyone kno if there is a fues or relay that controls power to the coil pack & where they might be??? it's just strange how a car can just stop then now start again, she turns over fine just will not fire!!

My 2 ltr 440 does something similar, i can go out and start it and it starts first turn just runs lumpy low down in the rev range but if i turn it off it won't start again it backfires through the exhaust and turns over but just refuses to start. Then if i leave it a while it'll start again and it just repeats the same thing - turns but won't fire.

check inside the connector to the ECU for corrosion, mine played up and water had got in and corroded the connections (there was also a puddle in the connector and another in the ECU, I dried it out and replaced the connector(£40 in parts and 2 hours solderng) and put the ecu in an upside down ziplock bag, which kept further water out.

not just yet, still a few miles in my 92 440 with a mere 164,000 on the clock. they are a pain when they are not running right, but once you get them going they run and run. just a thought, its not a dry solder joint on a relay somewhere, that can plague 940's and similar due to age the solder joints in the relays dry out and intermittently fail, the cure is to melt each solder joint again, but I have never heard of it with a 440, but hey theres always a first time.
