Hello everyone! I am a new member; I just purchased a '98 v70, and decided I may as well start lurking here to see what I can learn about my new car.

This is my first volvo (I have been a big subaru fan, but the deal was good), so I hope it treats me right! Anyway, Just wanted to say "hi," and thanks to everyone for helping to build this forum for people like me: volvo newbies!

Thanks for the welcome. I have a few questions, right now, but so far I'm pretty happy.
1: The steering column makes a rubbing sound at a certain spot when turning. What is that? Is it serious? Fixed!
2: When I first start her up, the exhaust smells really rich. I am guessing a bad plug (I am planning a tune up and check in the near future), is there anything else that might cause that? Also, If I leave the car idling before I turn it off, when i go to start her again (within 2 hours), it is real tough to turn over.
3: When driving I can feel every litte bump on the road. stiff shocks, or is this normal?
4: I think the driver side seat heater has gone out, is it repairable, or only replaceable (the light doesn't come on on the button)
5: It appears the tracs button is not working. is it common for that system to break, or is it just the button? does it do that much anyway?

6: Anyone know a good volvo mechanic in Denver? All my guys are subie repairmen.

Thanks again, I am excited to learn more about this car, it seems pretty nice so far. Sorry for aL the questions, I like to save them up untill I have enough to make reading it worthwhile.

Hey thanks, that is a great site, it helped me get the rear tailgate off too! Looks like there is a bunch of things that just need some lubrication (the rear wiper was one as well). Thanks again!

is your abs working? if not, then your module is on the outs. as for a mechanic try cartalk.com there is a forum for mechanic that you plug in your zip and it finds the closest one to you who is recommended by other members. good luck. also, yours is a wagon right? it might be shocks that the previous owner installed.

I am looking at cartalk.com right now, thanks. How would I be able to tell if my ABS module is out? Brakes are firm, and the fuse seems in working order, is there any other checks?

if your fuses are working and the cars abs and traction control are in working order, it might just be a bulb burned out. are you sure the traction is working?

I am not sure that the traction control is working, how would I test for that? The light seems fine (it lights up in key position I)
