The speedometer on my 92 245 will indicate about 20mph tops...no matter how fast I go. Can I replace with earlier electronic (86 and newer). I havent been able to find the same one as mine.
Thanks,

Vic

Yes you can - sort of. There were several different electrocnic speedos fitted to 240s. The wagons have a different ratio to the sedans so you'll need the K9800 speedometer no the K10042 for the sedan. The 1986-7 speedos did not have the service light function in the speedo while 1988-93s do. The 1986-88 speedos have a semi-gloss finish while the 1989-93 have a matte finish.
It may not be a speedo problem, it could be the speed sensor.

using a sensitive multimeter, measure the resistance of the device with the axle turning at different speeds. May be polarity sensitive-I think it's an Hall Effect device-with which I've no experience, only in-principle understanding. speedo failure common at that age-capacitors usually. too old. BTW does you odometer work? a broken gear part might jam the movement???

The odometer is not working, but I didi check the gear. it's disentigrated. No debris in other mechanism.

Thanks,

Vic
