20L fuel, looks like I'll get abt 120 km city driving from it. Motor needs tuneup-cuts out when stopping-t/converter just overloads the motor and stalls it- She has a miss at idle thru to 2,000rpm-esp when cold. Only one run up a 2.5km steep hill this time. I can't get up to speed to lock up the torque converter on much of my running around. Should I hold it down in 2nd and let it rev more & go slower???? Much of my running is between perverse traffic lights. I don't accelerate hard, yet it just chews thru fuel. I don't want to take it to the shop to get it sorted, I should know what to do, but this is my 1st efi car, and I'm still learning. There's so little to adjust, I can't bench test to see what's wrong, the LH 2.2 is diagnosed faulty only by 'replace as last option'-& that, to me, is invalid. I should be able to test it by bench comparison with known parameters on a PC via a connection module-but that doesn't seem to exist until later models, and there's not a fault LED either. There's nothing to tell me it's faulty except check everything else out first, then replace it and see if that fixes it. Lots of hours mucking around in tight spaces, getting cold and dirty, and maybe not fixing it anyway. Big $$$ if it doesn't.

How to make service personnel rich at owners' expense-easy:-make it a long, difficult job to diagnose even simple faults via unnecessary complexity, in-house only components and accessability problems, require specialist knowledge and avoid the use of diagnostic tools.

Apologies all, I forgot my tranny is low on oil again, so that might be a reason, & I've opened up the idle air bleed valve to stabilze the idle when stopping. Silly me. I still have probs, but they might be less irritating now I'll try to calm down and stop wingeing. PS It does help to connect the vacuum advance hose doesn't it??? I'm a fool, thanks.
