I just purchased a used 2005 XC90 and for the last week I have had major problems getting this thing to go to Drive from Park only in the morning. I thought it was an anomally at first but it's happened about 3 out of 5 days this week, but still only in the morning. This morning my wife had the same issue and I decided to write about it. Anybody else ever experience this issue???

BTW, what I did this time was bang downward one time on the gear shift knob and then it worked. I have a 2005 XC90 T6 AWD fyi. Any assistance would be great!!!

Yeah, I just checked it out and the ATF transmission fluid is looking good. Levels are high and good color. This could be a hardware problem. Still not sure. I just bought the truck a few weeks back and I'm a little concerned the thing might not engage in drive when i really need it.

Thanks TGM for the info! I wish I could avoid going to the dealership since i'm technically into the extended portion of the warranty. Either way, i'll give them a buzz to see if this is a major component issue.

If anyone else has experienced this issue please assist. Thanks again.

I had the same issue. The sensor in the "PRNDL" area was defective and locked up the gear shift. This was a direct result from my 3 year old spilling juice in the console. I didn't have the time to fix it myself, but the dealer had it back within a day.
