I'm making a to-do list of small repairs for my g/f's new-to-her '95 850 turbo. Among other things, I noticed an odd hissing, static-like noise coming from the passenger side door. At first I assumed the window was not seated completely. Upon further inspection I found the noise coming from a small plastic piece by the oh-sh*t handle. It's directly behind it. There is one on the driver's side as well, but no noise there. The trim piece is about 3/4" square with small circle in the middle. I've poked around the forums, but can't find any info. The radio drowns it out pretty well, but I am still curious. Thanks!

PS - the noise is there even when the car is not moving. It is steady and does not increase/decrease with acceleration.

Maybe its just a loose screw. Open the door panel and check it out.

The noise comes out from the interior temperature sensor,it is there that you mentioned. There is one to the driver and one the passenger,is it correct?Check your ECC fault codes.I'm quite sure that will have stored one code for this.

Come on Ampang - use your detective-like deduction skills.

StrangeBrew (StrangeName  ) gives the following hints.

1. Coming from the vicinity of the passenger door.
2. Thought it was window not seated (i.e. higher than general door components)
3. Noise coming from small plastic piece by oh-sh*t handle (grab handle above door)
4. Directly behind oh-sh*t handle
5. There is one of these devices on the driver's side.
6. The trim piece is about 3/4" square with a small circle in the middle.

Your Honour, in summing up the evidence before me - I conclude the item in question from whence the odd hissing noise is emanating is none other than the cabin temperature sensor located above the passenger door. And your Honour, may I suggest from Ampangbear's response, it seems Volvos in Malaysia may not be fitted with these devices even though it is well known these devices are a standard item on many Volvos sold throughout the rest of the world.

Well, you're right.
We only have the MCCs fitted by the locally-assembled cars. The ones that were fully imported on the other hand, do come with the ECCs.

So, i guess, yeah, then, maybe need o check on the temp sensor under the roof-lining.

I don't believe that you must have something in your car,in order to help a member. There are also books, manuals, internet when I want to help,I make some research. So it doesn't have to do with the cars in his country or his own car.

You're also right. But ECCs are quite complicated. And knowing that couple with me being lazy and all, i long ago avoided threads about ECCs in this forum. You can check the archives. HEEE HEEE HEEE...

I think you guys can go ahead with that.
I just thank God every single day that i have a "simpler" system. Eventhough it may not be that advanced, but as long as Switch 2 of the aircond switch is enough to make me chill at noon of the normal hot day here, i aint complainin!

:D

You ain't wrong Ampangbear me old buddy.

Since the garage stuffed my ECC up - I'm determined to eventually get the system going by myself and so I've been doing a lot of research of how the ECC integrates with the Motronic 4.3 SFI ECM, Aisin auto transmission TCM and various other inputs and control devices.

I've found it all very interesting and, along the way, learnt quite a lot - and yes the ECC is a very complicated system, and made more complicated as the components are now getting around the 12-15 year-old mark.

I have all the replacement parts (ECC, ECM, TCM, pressure switches, A/C relay) and when I feel the time is right I will roll up my sleeves and have a go.
