The Goodyear tires on my S60 R are rubbing when I pull out of my driveway or make a sharp turn. I removed the small aluminum plates mounted in the wheel well but the rub is still there. I did a search and found that Vivaperformance.com has spacer kits. Has anyone installed these and eliminated the rubbing problem?

IIRC, some did and some didn't still have the issue. I think the tire was the deciding factor most of the time. Search here, theres more than one topic on this...ah here ya go,

FWIW, I have Pirelli P-Zero and have almost no issue even at full lock.

Don't put the kit in.

You will take a car that already has the worse turning circle on the road and make it even worse.

My dealer told me I'd be crazy to put it in.

I put a set on Continentals on and the rub a little less. The stock Pirellis were awful anyway.

Thanks for the reply! The Goodyear Eagles are brand new so I will have to live with the rubbing until they wear out and I can check into the Continentals.

The Pirelli's in my opinion don't seem worth the huge expense.

I have Pirelli P7's fitted at the moment and find them reasonable enough (a little noisy perhaps but they grip fairly well)
Must be getting on for 20'000 miles since the first couple of tires were fitted.

Have not experienced the rubbing thing at all with them.

I think it has to do with what rims you have. I have an 01 2.4T with the upgraded 17" rims. I've noticed the same problem you describe - in very sharp turns either direction my tires rub up on the wheel wells. I notice you say you have the 04 R, so you also probably have 17" rims.

I would disagree about the tires making the difference. I have thin Yokohamas and they still rub in the wheel well. I think that it was a poor engineering design on Volvo's behalf to offer the 17" option.

I have the '02 AWD with 17" wheels, and have had tire rubbing problems as well. I never heard a noise, but would meet a lot of resistance occasionally when making sharp turns. Local indy shop checked it out and said tire rubbing was the cause. I have General "Exclaim" UHP's, same size at the supplied Pirelli's.
