I bought my Volvo C30 2.4I in Canada and picked it up at the Volvo Factory in Gothenburg Sweden last summer. Great experience and a great car.
I have one problem: Occasionally the car wont start. Display shows "Car immobilized see manual". Have had it to the dealer twice. Still no luck car will not start about once a week. What to do? Dealer says that no one has ever had this problem. Is he right?

Do you have another key fob, and does it do it with both of them? Have you tried putting a new battery in the fob with the problem? Does it happen at the same location?

Thanks for your reply>
The dealer replaced both keys and downloaded new software. Did not resolve the problem. It happens by random in any location. We have now discovered that when it happens (car immobelized) we use the other key and so far that has been successful. It is a real inconveniance when I get stuck by myself.

I've learned over the years that it doesn't matter what kind of car you own the dealership always claims...."You are the first person in here with that problem" or "We have never encountered a problem like this before".

I think they are trained to say things like that when they encounter a design flaw.

Then all of a sudden there will be a recall with a proper fix for a problem that supposedly only you had in the entire world.

When new Volvos have sun-roof leaks and window seal leaks the Volvo dealership will say, "Volvos are designed for safety not for heavy rain and automatic car washes." So you shouldn't expect your $30,000-$50,000 Volvo to not have leaks in the rain even when a $18,000 Honda has no problems with it at all.

Right!!!!

Not a common problem on newer volvos. Do you have any other radio ID fob on your key chain eg. A gym membership. Key the car key by itself and see if the problem resolves itself.

That sounds like a problem with the on board computer. For some reason it is not logging your key id. I would play holy hell with the dealer if any of my Volvo cars started to play up.

Demand that the problem gets put right even if they have to replace every scrap of cpu.

Your car should be under warranty and with a problem such as this wear and tear is not an issue.

I believe they are trained to say things like that when they encounter a design defect.
