I was curious if anyone knew where I could find a book or guide or anything on replacing the starter in my 2000 S40 1.9t. I cannot find one anywhere and do not know much about Volvos other than they are difficult to work on and expensive too! Thanks in advanced

non gdi engine

1. remove the inlet manifold, (if needs be)

2. unclip the cover of the starter motor to get to the wires on the solenoid and undo them.

3. undo the the bolts holding the starter on, make sure you note the postion of the locating dowel and make sure its there when you put the other one on.

gdi engine

1. remove engine cover

2. remove aircleaner and duct

3. remove top main bolt on starter

4. remove wires on solenoid (these are still secured by a bracket)

5. jack car up to get from underneath and undo other bolts holding starter on

job done :57:

refitting is reverse of removal.
