Bought a 2001 S60 2.4T Certified Pre Owned from Volvo with 46,321 miles on 5/27/05. Went out of warranty 4/07. As of 5/16/08 I now have 69,300 miles and am being told by my servicing volvo dealer that I need a remanufacturer Volvo transmission, right axle, right CV joint, rear seal and motor mounts.

I've never had any service messages come up. I'm complained about sluggish shifting & acceleration, rolling forward while in park while it was under warranty, fluid changes & software upgrades "were the solutions" with no results.

I've endured the bulb & brake replacement issues and service it at Volvo at all intervals, and now that it is out of warranty, gosh you do have a problem...we'll buy the transmission but you'll have to pay the rest $1,200+ according to my servicing volvo dealer but it's a limited time deal that the service manager is willing to "buy" the transmission. Why can't Volvo admit they have a major transmission issue, that they wait until your warranty is up to "diagnose" you have a tranny problem and stick you with price to correct their design flaws?

I registered my complaint to the NHTSA, Volvo, VexedVolvo. There are tons of complaints all over the internet against Volvo.

Can someone guide me how to get some satisfaction from Volvo and has anyone else gotten the "special deal song" from their dealer to make the problem go away?

i also submitted my complaint to the nhsta regarding my volvo v70 transmission issue. my car always failed to move. the car shop stated that we need new transmission. there are currently hundreds of complaints, i think nhtsa should give time to investigate volvo about this tranny issue.

I have a 2001 S60 2.4T. This week the service indicator came on and said to service the transmission.

Is there any additional information about transmission problems?

I am in the same boat. I have a 2001 S60 2.4T with transmission trouble. The indy mechanic said it was the electronic throttle module (ETM). There is a recall on this that extends the warranty of the part to 10 years and 200,000 miles. However, the dealer will want to upgrade your software and replace your transmission fluid first before they address the ETM. For me, they said it wasn't showing the right codes so they couldn't replace the ETM. I've been battling this for the last two years and the harsh shifting is only getting worse. I called Vovlo customer service this morning and they told me the same thing. My "transmission service required" and engine check lights are on again. The dealer told me that I need a new transmission for $5K. I only have 115K miles. What a joke.

If it isn't the ETM, has someone else had the same problem and found the fix? I have also read on the forums that it could be the b4 servo and my VIN falls in the range quoted on another forum. If I can get this fixed, I'll be driving it for at least another 100K, but right now I might be looking for another car and not a Volvo.

Just wanted to add that I had to replace my trans in my old 2001 S60 2.4T. The diff where the output shafts went @ 140k. The diff was showing signs at 110k but went to 140k before it took a big dingding! I also have a friend who has a 2002 S60 T5 who also did their trans at 120k. Funny part is the trans is an Assin Warner which is Toyota/GM owned & made in Japan! Funny how the Japanise part goes. An additional note I just bought a 2012 S60 T5 5 days ago & have had the car in for trans issues 3 times with only 1148 on the clock. On a brighter note the owner of the dealer just called me today & is replacing the car for me. Would anyone like to guess who makes the trans, yup Assin! But can't complain the dealer Viti has been so on point that i'm a customer for life. When I was in the tow truck, he called me & told me that the car is their problem now. Problems come up & it's all about how it's handled. Needless to say i'm a Viti coustomer for life!
